One of the biggest challenges with AI at the moment is that a lot of outputs are stuck in this proof-of-concept and test world. Instead of trying to get over the uncanny valley, Illumination thought, let’s make fun of it instead. And tell that story. And your favorite animation studio helped them do it by finding, generating and causing complete mischief with AI art of the world to illustrate the real fact; Minions make AI. Oh, and the grown up problem we helped solve, that pesky ol’ copyright issue. In particular:

• We generated AI art legally cleared of copyright.

• We did this by collaborating with Getty Images.

• We combined a traditional VO story, CGI for the outcome, and AI art for the build.
